  • Boy adjusting the tarpaulin on a lorry outside the SIM compound in Doro, Upper Nile State, South Sudan.
Me and my colleague Tom rode from Doro to Melut in this lorry, carrying supplies for the Fader family that were recovered from the SIM base that was evacuated last year in Yabus, Blue Nile State, Sudan.
The journey took over twelve hours across poor quality roads and involved two separate breakdowns that occurred barely fifteen minutes apart, countless checkpoints, and the boy smoking like a chimney even while refuelling the vehicle.
Despite all of this we arrived in Melut safely to a warm welcome from the guys at GTC and the Fader family, who baked us some delicious cookies as a thank you.
